Jubilee for Hawera High School.

Hawera High School 100th Jubilee.

At 2 pm Friday afternoon where the clouds were just enough to obscure the snow capped mountain Taranaki, a mass of ex students, teachers and the Hawera High School campus as the calls from the Tangata whenua echoed through out the entrance corridors in the ceremonial fashion of the Powhiri.

The Hub more formerly name as Te whare o Ruaputahanga – the house of Ruaputahanga hosted a packed house who packed a good half court of the manuhiri side. The karanaga – calls were performed by current students exampling excellent tutoring by Shay King.

Moving from 'The welcome'

With the formalities of mihimihi – speeches , waiata – singing and hongi – pressing of noses, The honourable Mayor Phil Nixon addresses the Community of past and present in this historic occasion of reflection, reminiscing and remembering. The accolades and efforts to the committee was echoed and with every Powhiri the use of food to connect everybody and uplift that intensity was also greeted with entertainment of locals singing waiata during the refreshments.
